Did you know? Lots of Panther tanks captured in Normandy. Around Garcelles and Caen, the 1st SS-Panzer Regiment’s I. Battalion launched a Panther-led counterattack against the British 29th Tank Brigade, part of the 11th Armoured Division. The rest of the division, except for those in Belgium, waited in Falaise as reserves. They swiftly moved forward to face the British assault. Together with the 21st Panzerdivision, they launched a counterattack that stopped the British advance and compelled them to retreat. The British lost 126 tanks during this operation.
